💰 Tiny Treasure – Hand-Sewn Coin Purse Tutorial

☁️ Level: Beginner

⏱ Time: ~45 minutes

💛 Tools You’ll Need:

  • Fabric (two pieces, 4 x 4 inches / 10 x 10 cm for a small purse, or adjust to desired size)

  • Needle and thread

  • Scissors

  • Pins or clips

  • A zipper (optional, but recommended for closure)

  • Ruler or measuring tape

  • Iron (optional, to press fabric)

Tip: Use cotton or felt for a soft but sturdy purse.

✨ Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Cut Your Fabric

Cut two identical squares (or rectangles, depending on your shape preference) of fabric. For a small coin purse, 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) is a good size.

Optional: Use contrasting fabrics for the inside and outside for a more personalized look!

2. Prepare the Zipper (Optional)

If you're using a zipper, pin it to one edge of the fabric. Make sure the zipper is positioned along the top edge. If you don’t have a zipper, you can simply sew a straight edge for a simpler open pouch.

Tip: If you’re using a zipper, place the zipper teeth facing down toward the fabric’s edge.

3. Sew the Sides Together

Once your zipper is attached (or if you’re going without), start by pinning the two fabric pieces together with the right sides facing each other (patterned side inward). Then, stitch along the sides of the fabric, leaving the top edge (where the zipper is) open. Make sure to sew carefully around the zipper (if using) and backstitch at the corners to secure your seams.

Tip: Use a small, neat stitch so it’s secure and durable.

4. Turn the Coin Purse Right-Side Out

Carefully turn your coin purse inside out so that the pretty side of the fabric is showing. Use a pencil or dowel to gently push out the corners for a crisp finish.

5. Finish the Top (Optional)

If you're using a zipper, you’re pretty much done after attaching it! If you're not using a zipper, you can fold over the top edge slightly and sew it down to create a cleaner finish.

Tip: If you want to add a little tag or keychain loop, now’s a good time to attach it before closing the top!

6. Final Touches

After finishing the top and turning the purse inside out, you can press the edges with an iron (on low heat) to smooth out the fabric. Now your coin purse is ready to hold your treasures!

🌟 You’re Done!

Congratulations! You’ve made your own cute, hand-sewn coin purse. You can now fill it with coins, jewelry, or small trinkets. It’s also perfect as a gift or party favor!
